Case Study: Cairn App

Cairn, a popular mobile app amongst the extreme of the extreme of the outdoor community - the guys who are bagging peaks in Nepal, established a small but dedicated user base. I discovered them though Backpacker magazine while planning my more modest trek along the PCT for my 40th birthday and fell in love. Brilliantly executed, it made calling for help in the outdoors as easy as using Apple Maps on your iPhone.

As an experienced mobile app producer, I identified a few issues that would face them as they sought to grow their business and used my time in class with Product School to work through the exact path they would need to follow to help all outdoor explorers and holiday vacationers with their mission of creating a safer outdoors.

Recommendations include a strategy for rebranding and a path to monetization.
